Sao Paulo

I didn't spend too many days in Sao Paulo, but did have time to explore the city centre a bit. Here is a cathedral - Se Catedral - which is located in the very centre.
Anchieta was one of the first Jesuit missionaries in Brazil and the place below is named after him.

This display was on one of the banks in Sao Paulo. It shows how much the Brazilians have paid in tax during the year. Since this was close to the end of the year, the number is rather high.

Below is a fancy gate into one of the banks, with a couple of homeless people in front, again showing some of the big contrasts in this country.

It was possible to go up to the top floor of one of the banks, the one shown in the middle of the picture above. They have a roof terrace that you normally can visit, but now it was raining a little bit so the top was closed off. It was still possibly to go quite high up and get a view of the vast amount of big buildings in Sao Paulo. Since it was raining, the view was not as good as it could be and it's not possible to see very far, see the picture below.

This massive guy was painted on the wall of a building at least 15 floors high.

I found what they called Swedish bread in a supermarket. These were similar to the Swedish knäckebröd, but smaller and thinner, maybe more like some crackers you can find in Sweden. They also had the biscuits shown below, which you can find in Sweden.

One day we went to the Chinatown in Sao Paulo. It might not have been enormous, but it did contain a few streets and it did give a Chinatown feeling. There were many shops selling typical Chinese things and food and many Chinese restaurants. We ended up buying some things and having a delicious Chinese/Japanese lunch.

Do you see anything interesting with the picture above? Probably not, just a boring road with 5-6 lanes in each direction! Below is a zoomed in picture of the left hand side of the image, showing a guy taking a nice afternoon nap. It should be possible to find a nicer place to rest..

Here follows some pictures from one of the main avenues in Sao Paulo - Avenida Paulista.

In the middle of all these buildings and urban chaos, some kids found a place to play football. The street in the background is Avenida Paulista, but Brazilians can always find a place to play their favourite sport.

In the end of the day we sat down and ate some acai, here together with some mango cream. Delicious!
