Angra dos Reis

Angra dos Reis is a small coast town located a three hour bus ride west of Rio de Janeiro. There is not really anything to see in the town itself, which has a lot of favelas on the hillside.

Following the coast out of the town, it quickly starts looking much better. Many very rich people have houses here. I wouldn't mind looking after one of them during the time the owners are away, which is most of the year. The temperature here is so warm all year around that you can always go for a swim. I read somewhere that there are enough islands such that you can visit a new one every day for a year without going back to the same island twice.

There are also plenty of hotels and resorts along the coast, some of them really big and luxurious. We stayed at a small hotel, which was owned by a nice old captain and his wife. They were extremely friendly and had a wonderful relaxing place, see the pictures below. The captain had a lot of energy and a lot of stories about everything. He especially seemed to enjoy the breakfasts, where he walked around and talked with all the guests and offered different kinds of food.
